Gold prices break higher, base metals looking heavier

The base metals put in surprisingly strong performance on Wednesday, the motivation for such a move may have come from reports that China was looking to do more broad based strategic stockpiling but sentiment was also helped by some better US data. At the closed all metals were in positive territory and gains averaged 1.1 percent, led by a 2.5 percent rally in copper that closed at $4,645.
